My writings, old and new...

I've been an avid reader since I was 10 and my parents subscribed me to ''Boy's Life''. We lived in a small town without TV for 3 years; my family read as many books as we could! (My wife still occasionally mentions TV shows I've never seen; I think the books I read did me more good!) I'm going to put my opinions of books I've read and especially those I could not finish.

I just finished reading "Ship of the Line" by Diane Carey 1997.

This novel is a rather well done story; while it could be said that their is a plethora of  Star Trek novels and I seldom buy any of the latest series, this is a book well worth reading. (On the other
hand, I lost track of the Star Wars universe stories several years ago.)

This story combines several threads: Picard's Enterprise after the destruction of Enterprise ("Generations") and before Enterprise time traveled back to meet Zefrain Cochran ("First Contact"); CAPT Morgan Bateson and his crew (you do recall the episode where in a star ship from Kirk's
time was trapped in a "time bubble" and Picard's Enterprise was trapped in a causality look and kept colliding with Bateson's ship; a disgraced Kligon who was in a blood feud with Bateson and  finally, the
Cardassian torturer who tried to break Piccard.

Ms. Carey very skillfully weaved together the various plot lines and came up with nice plot twists.  I enjoyed reading this story and recommend it.

My wife recently bought me a copy of "Hell Faire" by John Ringo. This is the fourth and (possibly?) last book in his Poslene{sp} series. What makes it even more remarkable is the publisher, Jim Bean, included a CD with all four (4) books in Ringo's series and all four (4) books in anther series that Ringo co-authored. (I have hard copies of all eight (8) books by the way.) As long as you don't charge for the CD or change the CD, you - the readers! - can make copies of the CD and give it away to your friends.

That's a lot of novels to be getting for free!

There is also some fanfict of publishable quality on the CD. I strongly recommend buying this book and spreading the CD to your friends. There is a subtle motive here. Jim Baen has been giving away free digital copies of a number of novels on his web page. I downloaded several and realized that I couldn't take the computer into the bathroom at 3 am to read on the toilet or take the computer to work and read on breaks. I had to have the printed copies of these books and so I dropped the cash! The authors and the publisher (Mr. Jim Baen) got paid royalities anyway.

Go buy it! Read it! You'll like it!
