My writings, old and new...

I've been an avid reader since I was 10 and my parents subscribed me to ''Boy's Life''. We lived in a small town without TV for 3 years; my family read as many books as we could! (My wife still occasionally mentions TV shows I've never seen; I think the books I read did me more good!) I'm going to put my opinions of books I've read and especially those I could not finish.

Intro

The Rath General Store is intended to
  • Give the appearance of a classic General Store (i.e. long and narrow),
  • Have artifacts (antiques) behind glass, on top of shelves artfully about the room,
  • interesting gifts for sale and
  • clerks in period costumes to help you!
While selling items "feeds the bulldog", we are really here as Docents.

1)  "A prince need not be religious and ought not to be religious, but it is most important for him to appear to be religious."

"Thoughts on Machiavelli"
Leo Strauss

2) "My father once said we are given a sense of humor that we may cloak our grief."

"Horse And Buggy Doctor"
 Arthur E. Hertzler

3) "Expertise in one field does not carry over into other fields. But experts often think so. The narrower their field of knowledge the more likely they are to think so."

Robert A. Heinlein

Such experts are legion. These include OB\GYNs...

4) "The Republican Party, while it is wicked and corrupt, is not an assemblage of fools, and while there may be, and doubtlessly are, many foolish and stupid men who put themselves forward as leaders, the mass of voters in all sections of this country are tolerably sensible people."

Dodge City Democrat December 23, 1883

I found this quote in a "newspaper" which was a collection of old newspaper quotes. This was behind the counter in the Bank. They had a more ornate style of writing. I liked it.
