My writings, old and new...

I've been an avid reader since I was 10 and my parents subscribed me to ''Boy's Life''. We lived in a small town without TV for 3 years; my family read as many books as we could! (My wife still occasionally mentions TV shows I've never seen; I think the books I read did me more good!) I'm going to put my opinions of books I've read and especially those I could not finish.

About movie Five Million Miles To Earth"

"The only real question is, who are the monsters?"

"They ask that question in every monster movie, you know. It's an actual trope."

"I know," Tom said. "What does it say about us that it's relevant every single time they ask it?"

I saw "Five Million Miles To Earth" in the 6th grade. I cheered the heroic humans.

Decades later I watched it again and realized the astronauts had stolen an egg from Venus. Egg hatched and creature grew. The humans were greedy monsters who tortured the Venus creature. The humans did not get the ass kicking they deserved.

The humans had no redeeming features that I recall...

Great Quote!

This will be a great quote for my 2020 - 2022 COVID Pandemic Journal (once I edit it).

Introducing LTjg Wilhite

Here is part of my 1991 novel: "The Junior Officer sighed, handed Tanner a business cqrd gthat read "James Wilhite, Ltjg, Supply Corps, USN." Tanner dutifully put this card in his wallet next to the pink USN reservist ID card.

Tanner never notices that Wilhite's card said USN instead of USNR; the "R" meant "Reserve". Tanner did not know that it was almost unheard of for a junior supply corp officer to hold a regular commissionio and that this Wilhite must walk on water and be so competient that he had powerful friends; it also meant he lacked powerful enemies. When I write the CPO initiation part of my 2005 novel, I could have Tanner write Wilhite and tell me he had returned to Mother Navy and life was good.

Has my 2005 novel really been hanging fire for almost 20 years? Talk about writer's block!
